3 Simple Dental Care Tips to Improve Your Overall Health in the New Year

New Year, New You

Every year, we create resolutions aimed at improving our health. It is important to include your dental health too! Taking proper care of your gums and teeth can have a significant impact on your overall health and life. Perhaps, you want to ensure that you don’t neglect any important aspect of taking care of your gums and teeth. At MS Dental, we want to help you improve your dental hygiene and health this year by sharing dental care tips that will enhance your overall health.
  1. Brush better
Proper brushing helps your mouth and your entire body. Ideally, you should visit your family dentist at least twice a year. Before your next dental visit and between appointments, make sure that you brush your teeth properly and regularly. You may have a toothbrush but it won’t help you if you don’t use it properly. For instance, timing is very important when it comes to brushing. Our dentists in MS Dental agree with the Dental Association suggestion that you brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day. Make sure you are replacing your toothbrush every three or four months. A worn or frayed toothbrush doesn’t do as good of a job cleaning your teeth.
  2. Improve your flossing habits
It is common to brush your teeth but often neglect flossing since it can be frustrating and time-consuming. However, flossing is very important and you should never neglect it! Flossing properly will ensure you are taking care of your gums and between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Flossing can help you to prevent periodontal disease and potential bone loss. Generally, flossing is not hard as long as you know how to do it properly and it will help in preventing some of the most common dental problems.
  3. Make healthier beverage and food choices
An important aspect of family and general dentistry is making healthier beverage and food choices. This is especially true for snacks. Consuming beverages and foods that are especially acidic or sugary like sodas, sugary juices, candy and other sweets can promote tooth decay. Make healthier, nutritious snack and meal choices to help promote good oral and overall health. Foods like fruits, vegetables cheese, milk and plain yogurt benefit tooth health and overall health due to their nutritional value.
Generally, these may seem like simple aspects of general dentistry or pediatric dentistry. However, they are important in addition to regular dental visits. At MS Dental, we want you to have a better dental health this year. Visit MS Dental or get in touch with us for help with any dental problem.

Causes for cavities?

What Causes Cavities?                 Tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease—5 times more common than asthma, 4 times more common than childhood obesity, and 20 times more common than diabetes. But, cavities are nearly entirely preventable and treatable. Here’s some common causes for cavities, and how to defeat cavities .   Poor Dietary Choices   One of the primary ways parents can help prevent cavities in their children’s mouth is by providing them with a healthy diet. Many parents understand the overall importance of a healthy diet , but are unaware of some dietary habits that could also increase their child’s cavity risk. NEED FOR ROOT CANAL TREATMENT???

3 REASONS WHY ROOT CANALS ARE NECESSARY AND VALUABLE PROCEDURES For many people, the mere words “you need a root canal” are enough to set off a feeling of panic. This does not need to be the case. This much maligned dental procedure is often necessary and has a lot of value. As far as how painful it is—with today’s modern dentistry, it’s really no worse than getting your run-of-the- mill filling. #1— A Root Canal Relieves Your Pain Many times when people go to the dentist for a toothache, it is because there is an infection deep within the root of the tooth. The pain can be excruciating—and is actually far worse than the root canal procedure itself. During the procedure, the area around the infected tooth will be numbed so you won’t feel a thing. Afterward, you’ll feel relief because you will no longer have a painful toothache! #2—A Root Canal Saves Your Tooth If you let a tooth infection go and do not seek treatment, chances are you will eventually lose that tooth.
